Seven days in Medellín is the sweet spot between "rushed overview" and "extended stay." It gives you enough time to see the city deeply, the neighborhoods that matter, the cultural sites, the day trips, without the frantic pace that compresses a week's worth of experiences into 48 hours.
This itinerary is built around how we actually guide clients who have one week. It is flexible by design, you can add or remove elements based on your interests and energy.
Day 1: Arrival and El Poblado Orientation
Morning: Arrive at José María Córdova Airport. Private transfer to your El Poblado hotel (45–70 minutes, pre-booked for a stress-free start). Check in and recover from travel.
Afternoon: Walk El Poblado at your own pace. Parque El Poblado → Provenza → Carrera 33. Get a feel for the neighborhood's layout and pick your regular café (we recommend Pergamino).
Evening: Dinner at Bonuar (book ahead) or a walk through the Parque Lleras area to understand the nightlife geography for later in the week.
Day 2: Guatapé Full Day
All day: Early departure (7am) for Guatapé. Climb El Peñón, explore the village, optional boat ride on the reservoir, lunch in town. Return to Medellín by early evening. This is the single most impressive day available from Medellín, do it early in your trip so you have energy for it.
Day 3: Ciudad and Culture
Morning: Take the metro to Parque Berrío. Botero Plaza and Museo de Antioquia. Walk east toward the historic Palacio de la Cultura. The city center at its best, before the midday crowds.
Afternoon: Comuna 13 guided tour (depart from San Javier metro station). 3–4 hours through the escalators and murals. Return to El Poblado for dinner.
Day 4: Paragliding and Laureles
Morning: Early paragliding flight (book in advance, 8–10am slot). Best morning light, most stable conditions. Return to hotel by noon.
Afternoon/Evening: Cross the city to Laureles. Walk Avenida El Estadio, explore the residential streets, discover why locals consider this Medellín's best neighborhood. Dinner at any of the restaurants on Circular 73, this is authentic Medellín, not the tourist circuit.
Day 5: Santa Fe de Antioquia
All day: Colonial town day trip. Depart 8am, arrive by 10am, walk the historic center and cross the Puente de Occidente, lunch at a traditional restaurant, optional swim, return to Medellín by 6–7pm. A completely different Colombia from the urban experience of the previous days.
Day 6: Coffee, Nature and Neighborhoods
Morning: Coffee farm tour (depart 8am, return by 1pm). The farm-to-cup experience is one of the most educational half-days available in Antioquia.
Afternoon: Parque Arví via Metrocable. Take Line K from Acevedo, transfer to the Arví cable car at Santo Domingo. Walk the forest trails, visit the artisan market, take the cable back for sunset.
Evening: Final night in El Poblado, Carmen or El Cielo for dinner (reserve well in advance), then Provenza for cocktails.
Day 7: Slow Morning and Departure
Morning: Botanical Garden (free, peaceful, extraordinary). One last coffee at Pergamino. Walk the neighborhood at the pace of a local rather than a tourist.
Afternoon: Pre-booked private transfer to the airport. Allow 90 minutes before departure given traffic variability.
Adjustments for Different Travel Styles
- Adventure focus: Swap the city center day for a white-water rafting trip (Río Claro, 3 hours from Medellín) or mountain biking in the eastern hills.
- Food focus: Add a Mercado del Río lunch, a Laureles gastronomic walking tour, and a tasting menu at El Cielo.
- Budget travel: Use the Metro for city exploration, combine Guatapé with public transport, prioritize free sites (Botanical Garden, Botero Plaza, cable cars).
- Family with children: Replace the paragliding and nightlife elements with Parque Norte amusement park, Explora science museum, and Acuario Aquarium.
Our team can customize this itinerary for any travel style, group size, or budget. We also arrange all transportation, tours, and hotel bookings as a complete package.
